High gas prices and Michigan’s lackluster economic picture looked gloomy. But thanks to a wonderful corp of loyal exhibitors, some very hard work and creative thinking, and great support from partners in and out of the horse business, the shows had a solid start and exciting plans for next year. Exhibitor Friendly – Hunt had worked on the Copper Creek series previously with S. Nelson Dressage, but was eager to bring her own vision to the shows. With the well established shows at the Waterloo Hunt Club about an hour away, Copper Creek wasn’t likely to be the biggest dressage venue in the area. But a small show is able to give exceptional exhibitor service and that was the goal Hunt set for Copper Creek. Show Management does everything it possibly can to accommodate the needs of the exhibitors. “From quality show food to fun and attractive prizes, we do everything we can to make the show fun and satisfying for the exhibitor,” said Hunt. “We try to really listen to exhibitors, anticipate their needs and respond to their requests.” The approach must work. At the Summer Dressage @ Copper Creek show August 2 and 3, exhibitors went out of their way to stop by the show office to thank the staff and to encourage the series to return again in 2009. Great Partners – “We had a lot of people who helped us on the series,” said Hunt. Local sponsors like Sporthorse Saddlery, Equine Reproductive Specialists, Kern Road Veterinary Clinic, Comfort Inn of Okemos and Tractor Supply Company of Williamston provided financial and in-kind support. Tracy Rowe McEwan of Rowe Stables donated coolers for the James Rowe Memorial Trophies awarded at each show. “We cannot thank enough Mary Phelps of Dressage Daily.com for her exceptional support and exposure for the shows,” said Hunt. “Mary has done so much for Michigan dressage this year, not only in the coverage of our shows, but in DressageDaily’s visit to Waterloo’s dressage shows and her coverage of Hampton Green Farm and their events.” Plans for 2009 – Plans are under way for the 2009 series. One item on the agenda is looking for ways to help the Midwest Dressage Association celebrate its 40th anniversary this coming year. For more information, call Sandy Hunt at 517-655-3710. He just keeps getting better.” The
